Happy Peace Corps Week! Every year for one week surrounding March 1st, Peace Corps celebrates the founding of the organization. President John F. Kennedy signed the Peace Corps into being on that date in 1961. The Peace Corps has been in Jamaica continuously since 1962! That’s over 50 years of service in the country that I call home.
The week is nearly over, but I would love to share some of my favorite things about Peace Corps with you.
Emily and Andrew, a married couple currently serving in Nicaragua, recently collected sayings from 12 different countries across the globe to share on their blog. The beauty of serving in Peace Corps is that we’re given the opportunity to understand a language in a different way than would be possible if we were just passing through a new country. I was excited to share one of my favorite Jamaican sayings, “Mi nuh bizness!”
