It’s about damn time I featured a female artist, amiriiiiiight?
If you watch The Voice or tune into U.S. pop radio stations, you may have heard Tessanne Chin before. This fabulous songstress stepped into the international spotlight after winning Season 5 of The Voice in 2013.
When I arrived in Jamaica in early 2014, the country was still buzzing about Tessanne’s victory. Kingston is plastered with billboards of her face. Her music is a mainstay on the radio here.
She’s toured with the likes of Jimmy Cliff and Shaggy, collaborated with reggae star Protojé and recently played at President Obama’s Youth Town Hall at the University of the West Indies during his state visit. Of Chinese-Cherokee-British-African descent, Chin is a dazzling example of Jamaican diversity.
I genuinely could not choose just one of her songs to feature this week. Without further ado, Tessanne Chin mi sistren an bredren:
“Everything Reminds Me Of You”
“Anything’s Possible (Rising Sun Riddim)”
