Carnival celebrations kicked off in January in Jamaica and culminate during Easter weekend. Carnival has been celebrated for the last 27 years in Jamaica, and there are lots of fun events island-wide; on that note, if you’re thinking of visiting, this might be a good time to choose next year!
Soca music is the soundtrack of Jamaican Carnival (or, Bacchanal). Soca has its roots in late-1970s Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean island nation. The term “soca” comes from “soul of calypso.”
Today’s #MusicMonday comes from Trinidadian soca artist Machal Montano. I had the opportunity to see Montano perform at Major Lazer’s show last December and you best believe it was a killer dance party.
Enjoy Montano’s 2015 soca hit “Like Ah Boss.” It’s perfect for getting rid of that 2 o’clock feeling, for kickstarting your workout and getting you pumped for a night out. Infuse some Caribbean vibes into your life!
