“I’m pleased to be chillin’ in the West Indies.” This sentiment applies to my current state in so many ways. Taken from reggae and dancehall artist Protoje’s single “Who Knows ft. Chronixx,” the phrase quickly became the theme of my Peace Corps service; even on the worst days, I take solace in my gratitude for my surroundings.
Protoje‘s thoughtful lyrics and meaningful messages preach social responsibility and the power of knowledge. His rhythm breathes good vibes into the soul.
Today, I share Stylin’, the second single off of Protoje’s third album, Ancient Future. The highly anticipated album was officially released last week, so be sure to give it a listen!
Stylin’ is a song about the foolish nature of superficial needs and behaviors. This song is a brilliant example of contemporary reggae! The synth sounds are seamlessly incorporated, providing a very new school vibe that is reminiscent of Daft Punk’s album Random Access Memories. Enjoy this wonderful jam and let it remind you of what really matters.
