I’m writing this from the pool patio at our hotel in Kingston, Jamaica. So far, we’ve been insanely busy. We had an early wake up this morning, and when coupled with all of the time changes (cursed daylight savings time!!), it’s been challenging.
I can’t even express how insanely thankful I am to be here. Peace Corps in Jamaica already feels Iike one huge family. I have genuine conversations with my fellow trainees, none of this feels forced; we are the definition of fast friends.
We’ve been advised that we are each others’ strongest source of support. I feel that sentiment wholeheartedly. I was honored to speak at our welcome ceremony to give thanks on behalf of Group 85. Plus it’s pretty cool that I got such an official introduction in front of everyone hehe.
Tomorrow will be a new day, a new challenge. I’m going to go enjoy a Red Stripe in the company of my fellow volunteers and the stray cats running around the compound.
